COVID-19 is something that we all probably thought that we would never have to experience. Although many things are still in the midst of opening, one thing is never canceled! For those for a part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ or even allies, June is widely known as Pride month! 🏳️🌈 Here are 5 ways to celebrate, even if it not at a parade. Here at Inflo HR Ltd., we believe that pride should be celebrated all year, not just in June!
During the pandemic, society has shifted to social media. It has been a great tool to use to stay connected to one another during the stay-at-home orders. Many platforms such as Facebook and Instagram have groups that people who identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ can join! It is a great place to come together and discuss anything that is on someone's mind. Whether that be an issue of discrimination discovering one's sexual orientation, or showing off pride apparel, these groups promote acceptance and support. Allies of the community are often welcome!
Many 2SLBTQIA+ organizations and Facebook groups are trying their best to organize events where members can participate virtually via zoom. Some examples of events are trivia nights, virtual pride parades, and paint nights. For more information, many social media groups and pages post events.
Some examples of websites to follow for events are Sqeqtrum Hamilton.
*Please Note* There are deadlines and/or criteria to register for events.
Many shops such as Etsy and other online retailers have Pride clothes and flags to represent the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Everyone can rock a rainbow, even allies of the community! There are also many different types of Pride to rock. Did you know that each identity under the rainbow has its own flag? No matter how you identify, there is apparel out there for you.
Looking for a more private and relaxing way to celebrate Pride? No problem! Adult colouring pages have become more prevalent in recent years if you are an ally and feel like colouring with Pride please do.
Dr. Ron Holt is offering a free colouring book. You can download it here!
If you are a part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ be proud of yourself. Know that it is okay to be yourself. Note that it is also okay not to be ready to come out yet. You are always valued and valid no matter how you identify. If you are an ally of the community, you are appreciated and needed. No matter who you are, you are always enough, and tomorrow needs you! 🏳️🌈
