So, 2021 snuck up on us way faster than we expected. Which may not be the worst thing, right? This last year was filled with ups and downs for most people, but hopefully, everyone has tried to stay positive and continue to stay positive for 2021. We can manifest good vibes and just keep telling yourself, “this is my year”!

Let’s go over a few things you can do to make this the best year yet!

New Year, New You

But… with a little spice. We like you! So we don’t think you need a new version of yourself, we believe everyone could work with an improved version of themselves. Plus, the perfect New Year’s Resolution is anything self-improvement related! We’ve been working on a little something for you that may just help with this, so keep reading!

Don’t leave everything in the past

Spend some time reaching out to old colleagues and see where they’re currently at and what they’ve been up to! Especially those you may not have checked in within a while. It’s always nice knowing that someone thought of you and wanted an update on your life. And hey, you never know when they might learn about a new opportunity that could be perfect for you. By staying relevant, you’re always in the back of their mind.

Reach out to people who have interviewed you as well! You may have built a good relationship with a recruiter or someone in a higher position during your interview process. It never hurts to keep in touch and keep that relationship going. This could lead to learning about any new positions opening soon and even giving you an upper hand when it comes to setting up your resume to apply. Be specific when you send out these messages as well!

Give your personal brand a revamp

Have you been using the same resume since high school? Do you use a generic cover letter for every job application? We’re all guilty of it! But, it’s time we change it up. Every job you apply for will be a little different, they’re going to require various certifications, additional skills, etc. So your resume and cover letter need to reflect this! Feel free to show off your accomplishments! The same goes for LinkedIn. You want to stand out from the crowd and make sure that you are a top candidate for the position you are applying for. Depending on the position you are applying for, a portfolio or a simple website that shows off your skills and accomplishments is impressive! There are tons of free websites out there that include customizable and easy to use templates to give it that personalized twist you’re looking for.

Celebrate you!

This has been a tough year. Take some time to reflect on what you have accomplished the past year and over the years in general. You’ve made it this far, and you should be proud of yourself! Remember that everyone has their own roadmap to follow, and it may not look like yours! Grab a pen and paper, write down everything that you’ve accomplished, and stick it to the wall. Read it often and remember all of your accomplishments when you find yourself going into a negative mindset.

Create a vision board

It’s easy just to say what you want to do this year or the following years. It’s actually doing it that may stress you out. By creating a career plan or vision board, it will help you not only understand how to get to where you want to be but by putting it in a place where you can see it daily, you will slowly start to see your goals come to life.

We recommend gathering photos that inspire you, whether they be out of a magazine or from the internet, quotes that light a fire in you, as well as using words or phrases that produce a sense of personal pride.

Breaks are just as important as working

That may sound a little contradictory, but your mental health is so important! Especially when you’re working from home, you may start to feel a little stuck or trapped continually being in the same space. It’s so essential to listen to your body and take some time to relax and try to destress at the end of the day. Find what works for you, whether it be reading a book or taking a bubble bath.

Make your space your happy place

That being said, if you are working from home, make it fun! Make your workspace something that makes you excited to sit down with your morning coffee. It is imperative that you have a space that makes you comfortable since you’ll probably be spending most of your time there. We’ve compiled a list of a few of our favourites and things on our wishlist that we personally love for a home office.

Everything chosen is available on Amazon to make purchasing and shipping convenient for you. If you know of any local finds for these items, please share, and we will update our list to support them locally.
